Bernie Wrightson
Bernie Wrightson was one of the most influential artists in modern illustration. In the early 2000s just as my art career was picking up, I had the honor of meeting Bernie at a convention in LA called “Monsters Among Us”. We talked for hours about art techniques and styles. About 20 years later I was honored to contribute to a tribute art book dedicated to him, published by Printed in Blood. So, I dusted off my notes and set out to create a Frankenstein piece that would be distinctly mine but also not feel out of place in Bernie’s own illustrated Frankenstein book.
Projects
Kindergoth
One of my passion projects, Kindergoth is a funny story of a group of best friends that save the world from various absurd threats (things like aliens trying to corner the market on pork rind distribution) while parents and adults look on obliviously, thinking the kids are just playing. Heavily inspired by Monty Python, The Animaniacs, and a faulty social filter.
Omicron fel
A personal world building project inspired by Mad Max, Mechwarrior, and Isacc Asimov. Currently the plan is to release small 8 page stories as digital comics. The first several books are ready but their release is on hold while we I with a couple of publishers.
Twitch
I regularly livestream drawing and painting on Twitch while having conversations with my industry friends. I answer questions about how to make a living as an artist, give tips on how to improve art, and sometimes even do portfolio reviews. We stream Tuesdays and Fridays from 2 pm-6 pm and other days when my projects are not covered by NDA. www.twitch.tv/kohseart
DCD Collects
DCD is a project dedicated to creating a community of art collectors. They create pop cultured-themed mystery boxes by acquiring officially licensed collectibles and pairing them with original art from artists. The boxes are opened live on Twitch and YouTube, Wednesday-Friday at 6 pm PST. If you are interested in supporting artists and collecting, definitely check out DCDcollects.
